In the range of sustainable information and communication technology (Green IT) energy saving is the most important part, which is often rewarded with „the Blue Angel“. But “the Blue Angel” does not define precisely the used material and the expenditure of energy. Here, conserving resources often means energy efficiency.
Several companies use recycled plastics for casing. Few – prestigious – producers dared to work with the material property characteristic “sustainable raw-material”. As a result, there is only one prototype of a phone case made of bio-plastics available.
The Biopolymer network of the FNR (Agency for Renewable Resources) and scientifical institutions, such as the Institute for Bioplastics and Biocomposites (IfBB) support interested companies concerning chose of material and material optimisation.
There are – small – companies in this particular area as well, who not only try to consider environment aspects for their product designing but social and fair working conditions, too. There is to name the “Faire Mouse”, which answers the price not only with the neglecting of petro-chemical raw-material, but with a transparent production chain and a sophisticated disposal system.
